Meet Carrie Frias.
Carrie A. Frias has been practicing as an attorney over ten years and she is currently the managing partner at Frias Indian Law and Policy, LLC, which was started by her husband and Indian law attorney Richard J. Frias. Carrie’s practice focuses on trademarks, copyright, and the protection of indigenous intellectual property. She also practices Indian law (tribal and federal), general civil litigation, and cross jurisdictional issues. Carrie earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from New College of Florida in 2000.
Carrie then obtained a Master’s in American Indian Studies from UCLA in 2004 and a Juris Doctor with a Certificate in Indian Law from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 2009. Carrie has worked in-house for tribal governments including the Hopi Tribe, the Navajo Nation, the Pueblo of Laguna, and the Pueblo of Pojoaque. In addition, Carrie worked as a registered lobbyist for tribes in Washington, D.C. As Chief General Counsel for the Pueblo of Pojoaque, Carrie was second chair in the Pueblo’s bad faith gaming litigation against the State of New Mexico in federal court.
Carrie is currently barred in the State of New Mexico, the Pueblo of Acoma, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Court, Stockbridge-Munsee Tribal Court, Little River Band of Odawa Indians Tribal Court, and the Santa Clara Tribal Court, as well as the Tenth Circuit and the Federal Court in New Mexico. Carrie has litigated in tribal, state, federal, and administrative courts around the country. Carrie has a passion for advocating on behalf of indigenous women and children who are victims of violence.
Meet Richard “Rico” Frias.
Richard “Rico” Frias is an attorney and the founding partner of Frias Indian Law and Policy, LLC. He previously served as the executive director of the Native American Finance Officers Association and legislative director of the National Indian Gaming Association. He also previously served as the chief general counsel for the Pueblo of Pojoaque in New Mexico.
Frias earned his J.D. with a certificate in Indian Law from the University of New Mexico in 2011 and his bachelor’s in English with an emphasis on creative writing from the University of California Irvine in 1990. He is licensed to practice in the state of New Mexico where he has had a practice focused on commercial transactions and Indian law.
Frias is a citizen of the Chihene Nde Nation of New Mexico.

We enjoy helping Native-owned businesses, tribes, and entrepreneurs legally form and protect their small businesses by choosing the appropriate structure; drafting articles of incorporation or organization, and trademark registration. We also perform general counsel services for tribes and represent individual tribal members in legal disputes in tribal, state, or federal court.
